Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What differentiates Generations?
A: We have a proven track record in the industry, and have the support and training infrastructure to ensure you are maximizing your return on investment. We constantly seek to improve Generations by listening to our customers needs. Innovative features like on-line access, text messaging, letter writer, and Call Center are some of the reasons customers select Generations.
Q: How can we access the program when away from the office?
A: Generations Online enables you to access the entire system securely over a standard web browser. Your clients and caregivers can be given a login to view their schedules only.
Q: What is the difference between hosted, browser-based, and smart-client?
A: Generations Onine is browser-based, which means you access the application over a standard web browser. Because Generations Online uses a browser, it is also compatible with different devices including PC's, Mac's, tablets, and smart phones. Web browsers are inherently designed for accessing data over the web and provide the best performance.
Smart-client or hosted applications do not use the web browser. Instead they require you to install additional software on your computer that connects to a database over the internet. This has many disadvantages, the most serious being slow performance (due to additional processes running), and lack of compatibility with devices such as smart phones, tablets, and Mac's.
Q: How does your support and training work?
A: Our top priority is to provide you with first class support and training and to ensure you always get excellent service. Unlike some vendors, we don't limit the support we provide. We stand behind our product - for the first few hours, and every hour after that. All new customers are assigned a dedicated trainer who works with your staff using our proven training system. Live instuctor-led webinars covering all areas of the application are available weekly, and our support technicians are online and able to assist you with any questions that come up.
Q: How does the licensing work and what is the cost?
A: Licensing is based on the number of simultaneous office users - not the number of caregivers or number of scheduled visits you enter in the system. Build your business as much as you want - we will never punish your success by raising the price. We also have a small agency program which starts off at a reduced rate. Please contact us for details on pricing.
Q: Our Agency has been using system 'x'. Will I need to re-key all of my data into Generations?
A: If your data is in QuickBooks, then you can import all of your clients, caregivers and rates of pay, service items, other charges, payroll items, client type, and classes into Generations. If your data is not in QuickBooks, it may still be possible to import some of the data into Generations depending on the system you currently use and the type of database it uses. We will make every effort to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.
Q: How do I obtain system updates and how often are they released?
A: With Generations Online system updates are automatically applied for you. If you are using the Windows version of Generations, you are prompted when a new version is available. Updates are generally released quarterly.
Q: What mobile devices is Generations Online compatible with?
A: iPhones, iPad's, Android devices, and virtually all smartphones and tablets can securely access and use Generations Online via a web browser, just as if you were at your computer in the office.
Q: How many clients and caregivers can Generations handle?
A: There is no limit.
Q: What is the difference between applications that sync with mobile devices or use a dropbox and Generations Online?
A: Generations Online uses secure internet protocols to access your data from anywhere, giving you the abilty to add and update your information real-time from your mobile device. Applications using a sync product such as Dropbox only give you a read-only copy of your data and create multiple-copies of your data in different places which potentially can result in security breaches.
Q: Will Generations Online work with my Mac?
A: Yes, many of our customers use Generations Online with their Macintosh. The only exception is QuickBooks which does not support integration on the Macintosh platform so we recommend you run Parallels in a Macintosh environment with the PC version of QuickBooks.
